3 Feet High & Rising: Raleigh Rock "N" Roll Outfit Thirsty Curses Share "Nothing Really Matters" Single (Mash-up Music Video)


Thirsty Curses is back with a new single and companion music video for "Nothing Really Matters," which dropped last week from the band's forthcoming album. The music video features a mash-up of two songs from their forthcoming album, which conveys the stylistic diversity of Thirsty Curses. Thirsty Curses is an eclectic Rock "N" Roll outfit based out of Raleigh, North Carolina. Thirsty Curses' material draws from numerous genres including Punk, Folk, Country, and Grunge and explores lyrical themes ranging from the existential to the absurd. Thirsty Curses' songs are both impassioned and sardonic, comical and foreboding. The two songs heard within Thirsty Curses' "Nothing Really Matters'" music video echoes something to the effect of Guns N' Roses meets Every Time I Die with a bit of Scissor Sisters-style "campy" piano bar cabaret mixed in, for good measure.


As YES! Weekly wrote, "Thirsty Curses make Rock "N" Roll, with a boisterous beer-swilling edge to it. Many of these songs are about living it up while things fall apart at the seams or, at least, trying to find some glory in chaos and meaninglessness." Thirsty Curses has a diverse sound, pulling from a variety of genres. Indeed, as Dying Scene once noted, "as schizophrenic as their genre influences seems to be, the one common denominator is that I dig every single track I'm hearing... I defy you not to get hooked by the track "Dimlit Cathedral." Thirsty Curses released two albums independently, Holy Moly & All Shook Up—which included singles "Holy Moly," "Dimlit Cathedral," "Exile," and "Neon Sign"—before signing with Charleston-based Indie label Spectra Music Group in early 2019.


Thirsty Curses put out its self-titled album shortly thereafter, which included the singles "Bruises On Your Shoulders," "Smash/Hit," and "Racing Through The Daze." Incidentally, the music video for "Bruises On Your Shoulders" won Best In Festival at The Broadcast Education Association's 2021 Festival of Media Arts and was screened at The 2021 Richmond International Film Festival. Thirsty Curses will independently release new music in 2021-2022, effectively kicking things off with their latest single, "Nothing Really Matters." Thirsty Curses' current line-up consists of rhythm guitarist, vocalist, and organ player Wilson Getchell, bassist Clayton Herring, drummer Evan Miller, and lead guitarist Alexander "Alex" Weir. Thirsty Curses' latest single, "Nothing Really Matters," is now available on digital streaming platforms. Their as-yet-to-be-titled forthcoming album will be released independently on March 4, 2022.

Liberty Bell Cracked In 1/2: Ween - "Freedom of '76" (Gene Ween's Final Send-Off)

Chocolate & Cheese (1994) was one of the first albums I bought with my own money. I was in some sort of BMG Music Club , where you'd buy 5 CD's and then get 10 for "FREE." It was all sent through mail order and you picked the titles from some special booklet. I'm almost positive that Chocolate & Cheese's side boob-baring album cover was what initially drew me in... mind you, I was 12-15 and the zany Ween logo/middle finger CD graphic really didn't hurt either. Honestly, I forget how I really felt about it @ the time, but a few years later, my older cousin Josh told me that Ween were this BIG college "jam band." CKY did some sort pf 93.3 radio takeover to promote their new album and played "Freedom of '76" late that night on air.
