Skilled bass/keyboard player and Fork & Spoon Records PR, Chris Gardner shot me a couple emails over the weekend. We had previously built up a relationship after I did some coverage on his main band, Those Lavender Whales ; Gardner also semi-frequently lends his talents to Columbia -based bands like Washed Out and Coma Cinema . This time, Chris sent me a nifty little "press kit" and digi-advance for Fork & Spoon 's very own Can't Kids and their new album, Brushes Touches Tongues . It's being released on July 10th, currently available for pre-order, and will be up for FREE download on Bandcamp after the release date. Needless to say, I really couldn't do much because my POWER was out for 3-5 days. Drummer Jessica Bornick shot me a quick email over the weekend simply stating: "We wanted to share an animation video our friend created. It features our song, "Shake Your Palm-Palm Branches." Clocking in @ about 45 seconds, it showcases a track from Those Lavender Whales' "odds & sods" cassette, Pilgrims, Friends & Blood-ties (2010). Myles Walsh animated short features 3 bearded Whalers , resembling their "Growth In Question" music video, inter-spliced against scenes of dancing palm trees. It reminds me of those 1960's "Beatlemania" cartoons and somewhat of grammatically incorrect superhero, Captain Caveman (1977-80). Those Lavender Whales' most recent album, Tomahawk of Praise is now available... through bandleader Aaron Graves' very own Indie Folk label, Fork & Spoon Records . It's the perfect record to help usher in Spring/Summertime and personally, I highly recommend it!

Drummer-turned frontman Aaron Graves started writing Folk -driven Pop tunes somewhere between Columbia, SC and Nashville during college. He adopted the musical moniker "Those Lavender Whales" and started writing, recording, and self-releasing songs with friends. By the time 2006-07 rolled around, Graves had assembled 3 hand-made EP's , which were recorded with a troupe of borrowed instruments and a rotating cast of surprisingly talented acquaintances. Roughly during the same time span, Aaron Graves formed a "loose collective" with local musicians, Chris Gardner and Jordan Blackmon . After a solid batch of self-released projects, Fork & Spoon began operating a a legit record label in 2010. Jessica Bornick (drums) soon linked up with Graves & Gardner, rounding out Those Lavender Whales' current line-up.
