Jumbled Shares Classic Rock Breaks, Vol.1 & Tone Lōc-inspired CD-only Just The Singles (Harford & Reckord Tapes)

Just this past Friday was the first Bandcamp Friday of 2021 and to help celebrate the occasion, our favorite Baltimore-based producer, JUmbled (who describes himself as falling "somewhere between Madlib & Mike Watt") returned with a gaggle of goodies: a new project, Classic Rock Breaks, Vol. 1 and a CD-only comp. entitled Just The Singles , as well as resurfaced CD copies of his early Rap/Hip-Hop album, Keep Diggin' , Monster Jam, YOU DON'T KNOW?! with bonus cuts, and Bully Preston's The Insult, and cassettes of You Best Not Miss with Lace Berriez and his 2019 instrumental beat tape, Padre. Classic Rock Breaks vol.1 by Jumbled As stated above, Just The Singles is a Tone Lōc - Lōc-ed After Dark-inspired CD-only comp. featuring Jumbled's collaborative efforts with the likes of ALASKA, Cody Cody Jones, Dot-Com Intelligence, Dwell, salk. Drew Scott, Torito, UllNevaNo, Vans_Westly, and more. For those painfully unaware, the remainder of the aforementioned...

Guts of The Ice - An Exploration of "Puck" Rock/Hockey-core #16: CHIXDIGGIT! Frontman K.J. "Chix" Jansen (The Witzard Interview)

CHIXDIGGIT! at Edmonton Oilers/Rogers Place (SOURCE: K.J. Jansen) Not entirely unlike Wrestle/Wrassle Rap or Basketball Rap, there's, apparently, a whole sub-genre of hockey-themed Punk/Hardcore—oftentimes, referred to as "Puck" Rock or Hockey-core. Yes, I've been a die-hard fan of Punk/Hardcore for 15+ years and I, too, only first heard about Puck Rock within the last few weeks. Although, once I started diggin' around, I discovered about 10-15 bands at the forefront; this was, then, gradually narrowed down to 10 "front-line" bands, which will be chronicled here over the course of coming weeks. The "top-scoring" bands we selected include: Crippled Youth, SLAPSHOT, The Hanson Brothers/Nomeansno, Two Man Advantage, The Boils, D.O.A. THE ZAMBONIS, Pansy Division, The Hextalls, and THE RAMOMS' "Gritty Is A Punk" flexi-disc. We sent out a short 6-question interview form to all of the aforementioned bands, received some back, heard a ...

DJ Cummerbund Lets Loose Foo Fighters-approved "Freaktender:" Latest Volume of Rhonda Garbanzo Multi-media Saga (Rick James mash-up)

"Hi Matt... thanks for your interest in my work. While now is not the time to reveal everything, basically, the majority of my mash-ups that I've done connect to each other on several levels and tell a large, arcing story centered around the pursuit of pleasure, knowledge, and overall happiness in one's life. I've been dropping hints ( Easter eggs) in each (starting from the "Uptown Funk" Macho Mix ) that are pretty much impossible to find, unless you know what you're looking for, which I'll end up giving clues for at a later date... Twaddle. This particular song deals with a portion of the story involving a young woman named Rhonda Garbanzo (hence, the usage of The Beach Boys' hit... couldn't find many songs with the name "Rhonda" in it) that finds herself close to death (hence, "Stairway [to Heaven]" ) after many years of abusing her body and ultimately, her soul. She is promiscuous, a severe alcoholic, and mani...

Dr.'s Tom Morello, Geddy Lee & Alex Lifeson Rush Tim Commerford Into Surgery In Blood-curdling "Voodoo JuJu" Video (Future User)

"I got the idea for the video after I ruptured a disc in my back and needed emergency surgery. As someone who often goes under the knife, I've always been a bit overwhelmed by the process, paperwork, approvals and costs. Luckily, I have insurance, but it got me thinking about all the people in this country who can't afford medical treatment. I read an article recently that said there are over 40 million uninsured people living in The States , which is insane," former Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave bassist Tim Commerford lamented in a press release accompanying his latest blood-curdling music video, "Voodoo Juju." Commerford assembled his politically-charged musical outlet, Future User , sometime during 2013 following the disbandment of his post- Rage super-group, Audioslave ; Timmy C , multi-instrumentalist Jordan Tarlow , and drummer Jon Knox have previously attempted to self-describe Future User 's unique genre-blending sound as "P...

Where The Wild Things Are: El-P - "The Full Retard" (Coked Up Strippers Flip-cam)

Lately, El-P 's stream of recent output(s) have been pretty shocking, original, and un-apologetic ALL @ once... if that even fucking humanly possible in this sickeningly over-saturated marketplace! Much like his records , El-P 's new music video, "The Full Retard" is painfully brash and almost uncomfortably in-your-face. In an attempt to defend his art, El-P recently described "The Full Retard" to Pitchfork : "Did I give a shit [if it's offensive]? Of course not. I don't care. It's a fucking joke, a Pop Culture reference. Even the context of that reference itself isn't making fun of retarded people -- It's people condescending to retarded people. I mean, honestly. Blow me . " Call it "offensive" or whatever you'd like, but Timothy Saccenti manages to direct a video that's equal parts jacked up and oddly appeal/endearing. Through out the course of "The Full Retard" 's plotline, El-Producto ...

Scientists Discover Cancer for Cure?: El-Producto - "The Full Retard" (Fat Possum)

For all intensive purposes, El-P and his Brooklyn -based crew, Company Flow (1992-2002) essentially spearheaded the formation of East Coast Underground ["Indie"] Hip-Hop . Company Flow has since disbanded and El-P recently dissolved his own record label, Definitive Jux . But El-Producto is still fairly active as a producer, solo artist, graphic designer, etc. Fresh on the heels of his upcoming solo album, Cancer for Cure (May 22nd), El-P has carefully re-aligned himself with the Brooklyn scene that he once helped create. Much like a returning, hard-partying frat boy, El-P now rolls with Indie Hip-Hop 's finest up-and-comers: Das Racist , Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire , Danny Brown, Killer Mike , Nocando, Aesop Rock , Despot, Cannibal Ox , and... The Mars Volta? El-P most recently lent his production talents to Das Racist and Mr. Muthafuckin' eXquire 's breakthrough efforts, Relax/Lost In Translation ; Even spitting a few memorable bars, for good measure...

Cancer for Cure: El-P - "Rush Over BKLYN" (Mr. Dibbs Initiative)

El-P -"Rush Over BKLYN" Released in conjunction with the like-minded people over @ Legitmix, "Rush Over BKLYN" is, for all intensive purposes, an artistic re-imagination of El-P 's own recently-released track, "Drones Over BKLYN." Effectively assembled and released with Legtmix 's * state-of-the-art fair use-age [sampling] technologies, the remixed track successfully melds fun, charity, Hip-Hop/Rock "N" Roll , and experimentation. The pair of tracks will reportedly appear on El Producto 's upcoming album, Cancer for Cure (Fat Possum) . All proceeds from "Rush Over BKLYN"' s sale(s) will be donated towards Mr. Dibbs' ever-growing hospital bills... as the Cincinnati DJ is currently laid up, undergoing liver treatment. Money can also be donated directly to his wife, Kristin Rose @ hellkitchen@netzero.com or via snail mail: Brad Forste 4830 Poplar St. Cincinnati, OH 45212. * "When a consumer purchases "...
