A Musical Examination of Randall "Randruff" Park & Ali Wong's Netflix Film Always Be My Maybe & Hello Peril (Spotify Playlist/Soundtrack)

Just this past Friday night, my lovely wife, Caroline, and I bought a well-deserved pizza from a local, newly-opened pizzeria. We, then, decided to rent a movie, which I'll whole-heartedly admit, my wife picked: Always Be My Maybe released on Netflix earlier that same day. Always Be My Maybe —yes, named after Mariah Carey's similarly-named 1996 hit single!—was penned by long-time friends, Randall Park (Fresh Off The Boat) & Ali Wong (American Housewife) along with co-writer Michael Golamco . It was directed by Fresh Off The Boat creator Nahnatcka Khan and has been widely framed as an Asian-American version of When Harry Met Sally, as well as Eddie Murphy's Boomerang; Wong was active as a writer on Seasons 1-4 of Fresh Off The Boat, as well. Simply put, IMDb bills Always Be My Maybe as, "A pair of childhood friends [who] end up falling for each other when they grow up" and we'll leave the general plot at that without giving away any spoilers... howev...

The Witzard Premiere: Raymond Strife & iLL-Omega's The Replacements-evoking "Shane Falco" Music Video (Invisible Library Records)

Last year, Trenton, New Jersey -based emcee/producer duo Raymond "Ray" Strife & iLL-Omega unleashed their second proper long-form collaboration, Go for The Gusto . It's the full-length follow-up to Ray Strife & iLL-Omega 's 2017 Preface: I Will Never Be Beautiful EP , which was, actually, premiered right here, across the pages of The Witzard . On Super Bowl Sunday , I received an email from Ray Strife entitled "Wanna premier a new video?" It was during, as we all well know, a fairly lackluster game between The Patriots & The Rams , so I quickly watched the video and sent an exuberant "Hell yes!" Reply back to Ray . Said music video is for Go for The Gusto stand-out "Shane Falco" —an allusion to Keanu Reeves ' character in 2000 Sports/Comedy film, The Replacements —is now, proudly premiering right here on The Witzard , as well, this afternoon. Throughout "Shane Falco"' s nearly 5-minute duration, we'r...

Pink, It's Not Even a Question: Liv Tyler for Givenchy - "Need You Tonight" (INXS)

The true, unhinged genesis of Pop Culture is often revealed when actors try to flip the script and attempt to start up a "singing career," or even vice versa. While they might not always garner the most sonically pleasing results, it's definitely something to see! Honorable mentions include: Bruce Willis, "Marky Mark" Wahlberg , Lindsay Lohan , Keanu Reeves , and Gwyneth Paltrow . Though the latest actress up to bat has quite the musical background - Liv Tyler . Her father's been the flamboyant frontman behind Aerosmith since nearly 1970 and Tyler [herself] even appeared on a Leonard Cohen cover along with Lemonheads (2009), a liner note which for the most part flew under the radar. Liv Tyler recently teamed up with perfume brand, Givenchy and Swedish director, Johan Renck to produce a very compelling full-length music video: "Need You Tonight." While the Industrial -tinged INXS cover's producer is currently unknown, it kinda has a N...
