Enter The Slasher House: Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks - "Little Fang" (Domino Records)

"A group of three hippies on a road trip through the backwaters of 2013's rural music scene fall prey to a murderous cannibalistic band making, including a leather-masked, guitar-wielding Avey Tare , his knife-wielding keyboard player Angel Deradoorian , and their cannibal chief drummer and decaying grandfather Jeremy Hyman ," Dave Portner vaguely attempted to describe his then newly-formed project, Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks upon their April 2013 formation. An Indie Rock super-group of sorts or even a self-described " Jazz power trio," Slasher Flicks features former members of Dirty Projectors and Ponytail , along with Avey Tare who's seemingly on a brief hiatus from his main band, Animal Collective . Domino Records will release the band's debut album, Enter The Slasher House on April 7-8th and paired with the Monday morning album announcement, came Avey Tare's Slasher Flicks' first pre-release sonic-appetizer, "Little Fang....

HOSS Records Presents: DJ Dog Dick - "Grease That I Got" (THE LIFE STAINS lp)

Max Eisenberg from Brooklyn, NY moonlights as genre-blending Noise-Rap singer DJ Dog Dick ; a former member of Dog Leather , Nautical Almanac, Dog Synth , etc. Eisenberg is finally gearing up to release his long-rumored HOSS Records debut, THE LIFE STAINS lp (out November 19th). DJ Dog Dick hails from the same original Baltimore -based music-art scene that birthed Dan Deacon , Weekends, Dope Body , Pictureplane, and Surfer Blood . The proper follow-up to last year's Identity EP , LIFE STAINS has been slowly leaked online over the past few months in the form of "Dried Old Leaves," "Rot Is Hot," and Pitchfork -premiered "Grease That I Got." Their track review essentially likens "Grease That I Got" as a "straight-up Pop tune, built around a bass line that could've been stolen from an R.E.M. out-take... or a helium-injected Butthole Surfers ." The Artist Formally Known as DJ DOG DICK (@ALLEYPISS) on Twitter further ...

Adult Swim Singles, 2013: Run The Jewels - "36" Chain" (El-P & Killer Mike)

Have you ever heard of one of those couples that've been "romantically involved" for FOREVER and have a couple kids together, only to finally get married 10-15 years later? Well, that's basically the kinda relationship El-P & Killer Mike have; 2 long-time rapper/producer friends who have been working together for years, released a joint R.A.P. Music album last year, and have finally locked down an official, albeit LL Cool J- inspired group name: Run The Jewels . While preparing their self-titled street album [mixtape] debut, Run The Jewels have teamed up with Adult Swim & Williams Street Records to unleash a glitched-out new single, "36" Chain." It's the first in a series of 15 weekly digital singles, which this year, is set to feature choice cuts from... Lil B , kitty pryde, Marnie Stern , Madlib & Freddie Gibbs, Lightning Bolt , Dan Deacon, Captain Murphy , Miguel, Pig Destroyer(?) , and more! Karriem Riggins , Viktor Vaughn [M...

So, Call Me, Maybe?: Dan Deacon & Ben O'Brien - "True Thrush" (Showbeast, Baltimore)

Call Me Maybe Acapella 147 Times Exponentially Layered by Dan Deacon Anyone still remember that game from grade school called Telephone , where you'd be like "Psst... Pass it on!?" The game would start out with a certain long-ish phrase, travel down a line of kids, and end up being something completely different by the time it got down to the last guy. I guess Baltimore -based art collective Wham City plays a similarly-styled drawing game, which Dan Deacon 's latest video, "True Thrush" is actually based around and mildly re-tweaks. While prepping the release of his new album, America (August 28th) and getting ready to head out on a MASSIVE nation-spanning tour through December , Dan Deacon somehow had spare time to write up this very press release: "Deacon's concept for ["True Thrush"] is loosely related to the lyrics, and mirrors his use of asymmetrical repetition and evolving patterns. For the video, Dan Deacon and Ben O'Brie...

Baltimore's Finest: DJ Dog Dick & Lil Ugly Mane - "Lights Down Low" (Shawn Kemp)

Baltimore, Maryland is a metropolitan city chock-full of creative, artistically-inclined young people. On the Indie Rock side of things, WEEKENDS , Dog Leather, Dope Body , Beach House , and Dan Deacon are a few of it's BIGGER, attention-drawing bands. Townsman Brett Yale runs a cassette-pressing record label, Friends Records and a companion Baltimore -centric music blog, B-more Musically Informed . He really seems eager to help sign, promote, and assist local bands in getting their music heard on a much larger scale. Recently spotted a short write-up about "DJ Dog Dick" (Max Eisenberg) from Dog Leather 's new Jazz -inspired track. Pictureplane once said that Dog Leather "[weren't] trying to be rappers, they are just being themselves" ... with that said, "Lights Down Low" definitely has an underlying Hip-Hop feel to it. Richmond 's very own Lil Ugly Mane is featured rapping alongside DJ Dog Dick on the Shawn Kemp -produced t...
