Guilty Simpson & Katalyst Unveil 2 Jazzy Detroit & Extras, "Letting Off Steam/Love," Ahead of The Kings Court Tour (Stones Throw)

"We recorded "Letting Off Steam" here in [Australia] in 2014. We both dug that joint, but it didn't make the album for various reasons; so, good to let the peeps hear it. Written and recorded in the same day. Just a dope vibe, really. Guilty killed that beat. Mad flow on that... "Love" is a joint we also had to leave off the album due to the album length. Neither of us like long records. It's a dope jam and Guilty's message/ lyrics are amazing. I really wanted peeps to hear that joint. Its deep. I mixed it again and got a much better mix, which is the one you [hear] released a couple of days back. That's all I can tell you." – Detroit's Son and Detroit & Extras producer Katalyst "Right now, all I'm listening to is beats. DETROIT'S SON is my favorite album. And I'm in a time capsule, bro – I'm still listening to The Commodores ha! I'm really into my own wave right now. I mostly listen to Jazz , when I...

Ray St. Ray, The Singing Cab Driver Presents: "WRONG SIDE OF ENOUGH" from Forthcoming Concept Album, FUTUREMAN vs. THE WRONG SIDE OF ENOUGH

"It started out as an attempt to write an early Bob Dylan kind of song, but as I wrote it, I heard Tom Waits in my head. It ended up sounding like a cover of Talking Heads covering Waits and Dylan, I think," Ray St. Ray somewhat unsurely wrote in a batch of exclusive emailed pull-quotes sent directly to The Witzard ; although, it's a rather bold, yet befitting description of The Singing Cab Driver 's zany Cabaret -leaning "WRONG SIDE OF ENOUGH." "Over the last 40 years, our future was stolen by corporate interests. Now, too many people are on the wrong side of enough. I feel strongly about this. It's what my concept album, FUTUREMAN vs. THE WRONG SIDE OF ENOUGH is about," Ray's email passionately continued. I initially heard about the infamous Singing Cab Driver a few months ago through my friend, crate-digger extraordinaire, and Now-Again Records founder, Egon . He spoke of one particularly interesting Madlib -accompanied late nig...

"A Ruthless Criticism of Everything Existing:" A Conversation with sole & The Skyrider Band Emcee & Kickstarter Entrepreneur Tim Holland (The Witzard Interview)

(1.) The album flows so smoothly and the beat selection is damn-near immaculate! How did you go about picking which tracks to include and sequence them? I tried to pick tracks that fit the theme of global revolution best, and went with those. I ended up cutting all the songs about more personal sh*t . I tried to sequence it more thematically as opposed to aesthetically. (2.) How exactly would you describe the overall sound (genre-wise) of A Ruthless Criticism of Everything Existing? It's Rap music. I've been calling it "Critical Theory Rap." Some people have called the production "glassy," I don't know what that means. * THE WITZARD EDIT: "This album is the culmination of a lot of shit, I hope you enjoy it... It's funny, it's poppy, it's not poppy, it's belligerent, it's personal, it's militant, it's everywhere." (Kickstarter Update #18) (3.) I'm not the most political person whatsoever... But ho...

The Million Dollar Basher: Amanda Palmer - "Do It with a Rockstar" (Theatre Is Evil)

Since parting ways with bandmate Brian Viglione , Roadrunner Records , and hastily re-forming The Dresden Dolls between 2010-12, Amanda Palmer has been secretly nesting dreams of a full-fledged solo career. While she's been somewhat "musically active" ever since about 1989, Palmer's debut solo album, Who Killed Amanda Palmer? was just released in 2008. Amanda Palmer Goes Down Under and Popular Hits of Radiohead (EP) were written/recorded and released over the next few years. Amanda Palmer initiated a donate-what-you-will campaign via Kickstarter on April 20th, which eventually passed her modest $100,000 goal and raised $1 million+ from some 25,000 backers to help fund her upcoming album. Amanda Palmer soon recorded roughly "20 songs" with producer John Congleton and her newly-formed band, The Grand Theft Orchestra ; Theatre Is Evil is now slated for a Sept. 11th release date through Palmer's own imprint, 8ft Records . Deep-pocketed fans who p...
