Spinnin' All The Platters That Matter, Side B: Mix Master Maestro Alan Friedman Shares Politically-charged "A Story of Power" (illchemist Soundcloud)

"Honestly, it's a very chaotic little commentary on a very chaotic time. Some of the sound bites come from campaign ads from 50 years ago; [it's] always a bit of a tightrope between serious and ridiculous," mix master maestro graciously Alan "illchemist" Friedman told me within a brief, yet self-explanatory Facebook DM'ed statement sent Thursday night. Now, take it with a grain of salt, but in my eyes, throughout the course of "A Story of Power," Friedman is essentially commenting on the current state of the nation and better yet, the world: social injustices, our comedy show of a 2016 Presidential "race," this ungodly wet, hot American summer, and general state of unrest—"it's a very, very mad world, mad world," as a wise man once said. "A Story of Power" has supposedly been sitting dormant on the back burner... or more so, the back of illchemist 's hard drive for a few months and as he put it him...

Motor City Movers & Shakers: Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - "Dark Water" (Joe Baughman Clay-mation)

Right off the bat, "Dark Water" vaguely reminds me of "Strawberry Fields Forever"' s droning Psych-Rock wail mixed with a strong 90's Weezer Pop sensibility and a Funky , white boy Dance -able groove. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. unleashed their latest release, Patterns EP last month on Record Store Day (April 20th) and now, it's conveniently available on iTunes for just $3.99. Joshua Epstein & Daniel Zott are 2 like-minded, working class Motor City natives whose Facebook Biography blatantly suggests, "The idea being, that if one can accept a band being named Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. , then you've already opened yourself up to listening to anything the band can come up with. You've already decided to leave expectations behind." For all intensive purposes, if you don't count newly-added members Mike Higgins (drums) and Jon Visger (keys), I don't think it'd be TOTALLY unreasonable to sonically compare Dale Earnhardt...

Steve Jones Presents: Arctic Monkeys - "R U Mine?" (Non-Album Single, 2012)

3 righteous Sheffield, England blokes collectively known as "Arctic Monkeys" initially burst[ed] onto the music scene in early 2006 along with the release of Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not . It's essentially a concept album that follows young club-goers, I can still remember picking up a CD [single] copy of "When The Sun Goes Down" @ Hot Topic ha... and the album eventually ended up becoming the fastest-selling debut in British history, even ahead of The Beatles' Please Please Me (1963)! Arctic Monkeys even seem to record @ a lightning-fast speed that's comparable to Classic Rock 's figureheads; Alex Turner, Jamie Cook, Matt Helders , and Nick O'Malley have managed to release 4 albums and 2 EP's over the course of their 10-year career. All the while, recording material with various side projects , Punk bands, award-winning rappers, and deep in the desert with Josh Homme . Arctic Monkeys quietly unveiled the...

Anthony (M83) Gonzalez - "Midnight City:" Short, Mutant-Based Film

Frenchmen, Antony Gonzalez has been artfully crafting Dream -tinged Pop music as "M83" since roughly 2001; Averaging nearly 1 full-length album every 1.66666666667 years. That would mean that this most recent M83 commercial offering (Hurry Up, We're Dreaming) is essentially Album # 6-7. "Midnight City," a track pulled from the Justin Meldal-Johnsen produced album, has been effectively pushed as lead single. Since intercepting the music industry in 1993, Meldal-Johnsen has flexed his bass-playing abilities on a string of Beck albums between Mutations-Sea Change ... Jamiroquai - "Black Capricorn Day" (1999), Black Eyed Peas and Michelle Branch 's respective breakthrough albums - Monkey Business/Hotel Paper , and Nine Inch Nails' 2007-09 Tours. While recently speaking with a few media outlets, Anthony Gonzalez has publicly cited a number of classic [double] albums including: The Beatles ("White Album") , Smashing Pumpkins ...

Re-Progressive Rock (2011 A.D.) with Justice

Xavier de Rosnay & Gaspard Augé will be the first to admit that they're far from classically-trained musicians. But over the course of the 4 years since the release of their break-through debut, † ("Cross") , they've noticeably upped their musical chops. When compared against Justice 's original Dance -inspired sample- based sound... Audio, Video, Disco is said to be a lighter-sounding Arena/Prog Rock nodding affair; Soft-violent "daytime [ Electronic ] music," if you will. Particular artists of influence have been said to include: Supertramp, The Eagles, Black Sabbath, Queen, The Beatles , and Yes . Yet the most interesting factoid concerning the 11-track set [Oct. 25th] may very well be that the 2 DJ's played EVERY single instrument! Thusfar, our ears have been graced with 2 singles and 1 leaked track: "Civilization," "Audio Video, Disco," and "Helix." Read more about Audio, Video, Disco 's tedious 1.5...
