Shadows of Tomorrow: MF DOOM Taught Me How to Rhyme "Accordion" with "Embroidering" By Charles Bridgers, IV (DOOM Tribute)

MF DOOM Print - CREDIT: Matt Murphy (@mattmurphyillustration) Honestly, it doesn't even feel like there's a proper way to elegize an eccentric and extremely talented artist such as MF DOOM, who meant so much to so many of us for so many years for so many different reasons as truly unique as DOOM himself. So, what better way to pay tribute to The Man, The Myth, THE MASK himself than by speaking to those closest to him? With a heavy heart, I proudly present Shadows of Tomorrow; a new recurring column in tribute to DOOM in an effort to re-tell the tall tales, strange stories, and lesser-known tidbits of The Metal Face Villain himself. R.I.P. Daniel "MF DOOM" Dumile Thompson. "For many, 2020 felt like a dream, a brief interlude from reality where much was taken and little was returned. For me, it's been a year of silence, reflection, and equations. It wasn't until the death of a Daniel Dumile that I found myself trapped in a nightmare that I didn't wa...

Shadows of Tomorrow: Intersection Magazine's 2012 DOOM BUGGIES Feature Photographer Alex de Mora (The Witzard Interview)

R.I.P. Daniel "MF DOOM" Dumile Thompson. "I'll easily spend two thousand dollars on one of those. Every kid wants to have a remote controlled car, but back when I was a kid, we couldn't afford it. One day, I said OK, I'm gonna treat myself and [threw] down 500 dollars for one of these. It was a T-Maxx from the Traxxas company,...

Darko The Super, Hemlock Ernst & Mr. Muthaf**kin' eXquire Producer âtƒ AKA all these fingers Compiles Beat-maker Bedrock #4 On The Heels of C.U.LATER (Bandcamp Album)

"Hello, I'm âtƒ (AKA all these fingers ) and I make beats and play music. There's a lot of dudes who have influenced me as a producer, but these are probably the ones I owe the most to... in particular, these records," Michigan -based producer all these fingers wrote within a recent email. I actually believe I met âtƒ through my buddy and frequent collaborator Darko The Super —they've collaborated on a few albums, as both Darko The Super & all these fingers and Doc Fingers . âtƒ has self-released a whopping 52 albums, mixtapes, cassettes, EP's, beat tapes, and digi-singles on his personal Bandcamp page since 2011. He's collaborated with the likes of Darko The Super , Mr. Muthaf**kin' eXquire, and Future Islands frontman Sam Herring 's rapping alter-ego Hemlock Ernst , as well as creating remixes for Roc Marciano , Sean Price, Beastie Boys , Nas, Raekwon , Biggie, and Slick Rick . all these fingers' latest Super Mario Kart -inspire...

A VILLAINOUS ADVENTURE... Thom Yorke Liberates Unreleased 2009 Lex Records-comissioned DOOM "Gazilli[on] Ear" (Man On Fire Remix) During Benji B BBC Radio 1 DJ Set

"Previously unheard vintage Thom Yorke remix of DOOM's "Gazzillion Ear." Thom sent us this nasty re-working back in 2009. It was marked "Man On Fire Remix," but no one heard it until last night when he dropped it on an epic [installment] of Benji B's BBC Radio 1 show," LexRecords wrote within a brief statement attached to their Thursday, September 8th Soundcloud upload of DOOM's mysterious "Gazzillion Ear (Thom Yorke Gazilli Remix)." It seems as though DOOM and long-time Radiohead frontman have maintained a mutual admiration for each other's work and wildly different aesthetics since around 2008-09—Yorke has included not only DOOM , but countless J Dilla , Madlib, Flying Lotus , Quasimoto, and MADVILLAIN tracks within numerous BBC Radio 1 DJ sets. Thom Yorke 's latest nearly 3-hour Benji B BBC Radio 1 DJ set included everything from Frank Ocean and Sampha to James Blake & Vince Staples' "Timeless...

Bishop Nehru & DOOM Are... NehruvianDOOM - "Darkness" (Lex Records/Mass Appeal)

It's pretty wild to think that 17-year-old emcee Bishop Nehru 's major label debut is entirely produced by mysterious rapper-producer MF DOOM and will likely see a release on Nas' newly-established Mass Appeal Records imprint. While he's currently touring across Europe with Nasty Nas himself, Lex Records unleashed "Darkness" (sub-titled HBU ) late Monday afternoon, the first taste of Bishop Nehru & DOOM 's long-rumored NehruvianDOOM LP. It's seemingly a dusty horn-assisted beat culled from DOOM 's expansive 10-volume Special Herbs instrumental series, which @BishopNehru recently told a Twitter follower is "the only one" harvested from the nearly 90 track collection; Nehru promptly replied, "of course he raps" when brazenly asked by another fan if " DOOM [is] gonna be spitting on the album or just producing?" Bishop Nehru self-directed "Darkness"' s companion under his birth name Markel ...

RE-INVENTING THE METAL-FACED VILLAIN: JJ DOOM - "BOOKHEAD" (Steve Powers)

I read some fragments from a partially disjointed Noisey interview with Jeff Broadway and Peanut Butter Wolf , the director of forthcoming documentary "Our Vinyl Weighs a Ton: This Is Stones Throw Records" and the Indie Hip-Hop label's co-founder the other day. One particularly interesting [tid]bit dealt with the film's star-studded interview section; when the interviewer said, " Kanye must've been a hard get," Broadway quickly responded, "Actually, as far as who took the most convincing, that'd be DOOM ." Yep, 1/2 of MADVILLAIN , the walking enigma formerly known as MF DOOM was hard to track down - Go figure! ha Preceded by a behind-the-scenes making-the-video segment the other day, Noisey UK ( DOOM currently resides in South London ) released the Steve "ESPO" Powers -directed "BOOKHEAD" clip late Wednesday afternoon. Lex Records must really have DOOM in a tight nut-hold, cause they're already r...

London Bridge & a Buncha Other More Shit!: JJ DOOM - "Guv'nor" (Rizlab Project #4)

I wonder if [MF] DOOM ended up making an appearance @ The London Olympics a couple weeks ago... or could it have the fine doings of a skillfully-trained " DOOM-poster !?" Either way, DOOM has been living "across the pond" due to a scattered details exile since about 2010, which was when/where he originally linked up with Jneiro Jarel . KEY TO THE KUFFS is the resulting album that was slowly pieced together, recorded under the dual-moniker "JJ DOOM," and featuring guest verses from Damon Albarn, Khujo Goodie , Beth Gibbons, and Boston Fielder - members of Gorillaz , Goodie Mob , and Portishead aided fame (respectively). DOOM is a very left-field, mysterious [prolific] kind of guy and KEY TO THE KUFFS really seems like a fitting album to be released in his 25th year as a performer! Ninian Doff directed the highly- Experimental , split-screen music video for "Guv'nor" as part of Rizlab Project #4 , which was ultimately unveiled late W...

Jonwayne, Azizi Gibson, Jeremiah Jae, Quelle & Scoop DeVille - "Night School" (Posse Cut)

Shit man, the name John Wayne is almost instantly BADASS ... Even when it's missing the all-important word-separating space and "h" for extra emphasis, of course. Depending on who you ask, I guess it could be said that Jonwayne is kinda a Hip-Hop Cowboy ; A rebel without a cause, and an un-worldly knack for producing a "darn tootin'" [perfect] beat! All the while, sharpening his Rap skills/chops, Jonwayne recently signed a deal with Stones Throw . Hard @ work compiling his debut LP for the Los Angeles -bred imprint, they've released a handful of FREE and re-packaged material over the past few months: Jonwayne F*cks Disney EP , Oodles of Doodles , This Is False (mixtape), a flexi-disc, and a $7.00 CASSETTE tape. "Night School" was quietly mastered and uploaded to Jonwayne 's personal Soundcloud page late July 30th, just a few days after Stones Throw outlined CASSETTE's rudimentary release. Wayne skillfully assembled a 5-man ...

60 FREE Portable "Walkmans:" Jonwayne - Cassette (Side A, with Jeremiah Jae)

" Jonwayne is an MC. He's on Stones Throw . He's making a Rap album for Stones Throw . He also makes beats. That's all we're saying for now. More later. OK?" ... Jonwayne 's new release is a Rap cassette. That is to say, a Hip-Hop album called Cassette , released only on cassette, playable only a cassette player. We're not posting the track list, and we're not releasing this on anything but a cassette. Side A is beats and raps by Jonwayne with Brainfeeder 's Jeremiah Jae . Side B is beats and no raps by Jonwayne . Total running time: 23:39. The MC/producer/ Low End Theory DJ offered no explanation as to why he wanted to release his album on cassette. Ask if he wished to expand on the idea he said, "not particularly." First 60 orders come with a new, fully-functioning portable cassette player with headphones, plus Jonwayne stickers. Check out a track called "Bukowski" from Side A , below. - Peanut Butter Wolf (...
