Action Bronson, Mark Ronson & The Black Keys Frontman Dan Auerbach Reinvigorate Fabled Genre-blending Jericho EP Sessions with "Standing In The Rain" (Suicide Squad Soundtrack)

“We went out to LA with [Action Bronson] last month—me, him, Alchemist , and Sean [Mahon] recorded an entire EP of material under the name Jericho . Jericho may be a project that we drop, that’s really under-the-table, no one knows about that yet. Jericho may just be like a multi-genre, no label EP that may cross genres from Hip-Hop to Electro to 80's Pop . We may bridge the gap with that actually, because some of the stuff we recorded for that, one of the songs sounds like a late 80's Smokey Robinson record and sh*t. And then, there’s some Surf Rock on there that sounds like The Beach Boys and Bronson’s rhyming on it," Party Supplies multi-instrumentalist Justin Nealis revealed to HipHopDX way back in January 2014. Nealis, at the time, proclaimed that he aspired to be "like The Black Keys ; they blew up in Rock and had a few Rock records out and then, they went on and used that leverage to call up Raekwon on that BlakRoc sh*t." Party Supplies ...

Party Supplies, Action Bronson & Black Atlass - "The Light In The Addict" (Fool's Gold)

"BEAUTIFUL NEW MUSIC BY MY BROTHER @xpartysuppliesx AND I. ADD @BlackAtlass AND WE HAVE A MASTERPIECE..." @ActionBronson exuberantly Tweeted, along with a link to the Billboard premier of "The Light In The Addict." It was seemingly debuted live at a colorful Sonos Studios/Soundcloud showcase held about a week or so ago, wherein "PS frontman Justin Nealis [was] clad in jogging shorts and a David Lee Roth tee, while Bronson sported a Brazilian flag doo rag." "The Light In The Addict" will likely be included amongst a gaggle of previously unreleased Soundcloud -debuted loosies on Party Supplies' long-rumored Tough Love vinyl/CD re-issue, which is currently slated for a November 25th release on Fool's Gold Records . Party Supplies simply summed up the track's underlying theme as "nothing is perfect... It's the sound of hope and survival and the crossroads of good and bad," when recently speaking with Billboa...

Songs In The Key of Life: Party Supplies - "Ohio" (Labor Day Weekend Mix)

While pseudo-frontman Justin Nealis has seemingly singularly produced countless records for Action Bronson, Cam'ron , and Danny Brown , Party Supplies is in fact, a self-described 2-man "Anachronistic Rock Music" group; newly-augmented member Sean Mahon appeared alongside Nealis on Party Supplies' 2013 Fool's Gold Records debut, Tough Love and supposedly assisted in production on frequent collaborator Action Bronson 's critically-acclaimed Blue Chips 2 mixtape and long-rumored cross-genre "Jericho" project. They've been relentlessly teasing at a Tough Love vinyl re-issue for months now... " Justine [Monsul], Sean [Mahon] , and myself wrote this in a hotel in Ohio a few months back, very happy to see it come together #OHIO," @xpartysuppliesx sporadically Tweeted this past weekend. It was of course, a preemptive message in allusion to "Ohio," the latest Country -laden non-album Party Supplies track, which was so...

Tough Love Re-release: Party Supplies - "Going Back to New York" (The Knocks Remix)

It's almost a little hard to believe that the same guys who produced Action Bronson 's hard-hitting Blue Chips 1-2 also make Electro-Dance inspired Soft Rock in their free time. But I guess you could kinda consider Party Supplies' Pop -influenced beats crafted for Bronson as that seemingly grey area-fusing vehicle; Justin Nealis & Sean Mahon somehow convinced him to ferociously rap over John Mellencamp , Phil Collins, Tracy Chapman , "Tequila," Peter Gabriel , Guns "N" Roses, and plenty more note-worthy cats. Nealis recently compiled a list of his 25 favorite aka most influential albums, which includes everyone from Paul Simon to Raekwon . While it's been rumored for quite some time now, it seems as though Fool's Gold is finally planning a proper CD/LP re-issue of Party Supplies critically-acclaimed debut full-length, Tough Love later this summer. Tough Love 2 (as we'll refer to it from here on out) will likely include rece...

MTV true life, jersey shore: Party Supplies - "4 More Months 2 Go" (non-album track)

Since unleashing their Fool's Gold debut upon the terribly unsuspecting world-wide web this past August, Party Supplies have released four non-album tracks to Soundcloud , which are now available for FREE download. It's unclear as to where they'll appear; quite possibly Fool's Gold 's rumored CD/LP re-issue of Party Supplies' self-described "greatest album in rock n roll history," Tough Love . Blue Chips #1-2 beat-maker Justin Nealis , along with newly-recruited second member Sean Mahon , uploaded a new track titled "4 More Months 2 Go" to Soundcloud about five days ago. Not unlike their other recent records, "4 More Months 2 Go" could be best described as vaguely Adult Contemporary -leaning Neo-Classic Rock mixed with mild Disco undertones or as @xpartysuppliesx recently described in 140 characters or less, "our sound is something like a cross [between] tommy bahama and mtv true life: jersey shore ." I'...

Action Bronson Presents: Party Supplies - "Security" & "Working Out" (The Fat Jew)

When functioning as Action Bronson 's Soft-Rock -flipping power-producer, "Party Supplies" is the one-man moniker of Brookyln -bred own Justin Nealis . But Nealis recently started working with multi-instrumentalist buddy Sean Mahon and together, they created post- Blue Chips 2 masterpiece, Tough Love (Fool's Gold). After a few minor technical difficulties over the weekend, @xpartysuppliesx Tweeted "as a band, sean and I have always wanted to write a song like this, so we did" mid-Monday afternoon, along with a still video/download link to Security;" a track that he further describes as 2014 Steve Miller Band and #motown , which was created using a sunburst Fender Telecaster seemingly given to him by frequent collaborator Action Bronson & The Alchemist . "Security" isn't exactly Hip-Hop , more along the lines a shimmery Island -tinged Pop-Rock jam... But it's perfect music for a chilly winter day like today, where most ...

Better Late Than Never: The Witzard's Top 5 Albums of 2013 (Happy New Year!)

Let's be honest here, it'd be almost impossible for a part-time writer/web-master like myself with a regular 9-5, too to even attempt to assemble a 50-album year-end list in an effort to "compete" with the Big Dogs like Pitchfork , Stereogum, etc; I think it'd be far more feasible to do a list of my Top 5 Favorite Albums of 2013, not even your typical run-the-mill best of list. So, with that said, here's a collective run-down of the most played artists and companion albums on The Serpent (my 160GB iPod), my car stereo, and personal iTunes library. I tried to compile a pretty diverse broad-spanning list, which ranges from Industrial Aggro-Hip-Hop to Philly-bred "Pig-Fuck." Enjoy the list and Happy New Year! While The Wizard's #5-ranking album is seemingly an unwarranted 16-track leaked bootleg; the scattered fragments of Jai Paul 's long-rumored XL Recordings album. Included within were 16 rough tracks, 3 of which had been previously releas...

Give Me One Reason: Action Bronson & Party Supplies - "Amadu Diablo" (Unplugged)

While it kinda looks like it could've been made fro about $20-30, Action Bronson & Party Supplies' new VHS-indebted "Amadu Diablo" video is really nothing more than an endearing (albeit weed-fueled) tribute to the long-forgotten glory days of MTV ; Rik Cordero self-desribed it as "found footage from the 90's now playing @ComplexMag " aka Blue Chips 2 Unplugged aka MTV Unplugged . "Amadu Diablo" starts off with producer Party Supplies (Justin Nealis) wielding an acoustic guitar seated across from Bronson himself, long skinny joint in hand. Action Bronson 1/2 sings 1/2 raps "Amadu Diablo" while Nealis haphazardly strums along: "Every day I'm walking with my head up / Don't let up cause it's a set-up / Like Albanian marriage, from Haiti to Paris / The bath was 90 degrees / Tapping Heinies with ease (shit!)" The track slowly morphs into "Give Me One Reason," the 1990's era Tracy Chapma...

An Early Review: Action Bronson & Party Supplies - "Blue Chips 2" (VICE Records)

"If you want to laugh, cry, jerk off, take a shit, this is the music you want to have playing," Action Bronson recently told Rolling Stone of the general aesthetic for his upcoming VICE Records (Warner Bros.) album. "This is for when you're comfortable with who you are - whether it's your dick size or your tit size," which is actually a pretty good assimilation of Bronson's overall musical feel. His rap schemes are more often that not littered with vague references to mid-90's sports, pro wrestling, gourmet food, exotic women, "wax" [weed], etc. Action Bronson has somehow managed to release 7-8 albums/mixtapes over the course of the past few years, and I think it's justifiable to ay that his just-released Blue Chips 2 (November 1st) just might be his magnum opus. Even though a handful of Blue Chips 2 tracks were pre-released as early as January 2012, Party Supplies' slightly left of center anti-Hip-Hop beats are pretty f...

The Albanian-Jewish Rick Ross: Action Bronson & Party Supplies - "Practice" (Blue Chips 2, Leak)

Editor's Note: I'm very proud to announce that I finally decided to purchase "thewitzard.com" last night. While the new site is currently under construction, thewitzard.blogspot.com and thewitzard.com are essentially one in the same. So, in a certain respect, this is my "inaugural" Action Bronson post ha... But make no mistake, Bronson is hands down one of my favourite rising emcees and Blue Chips (March 2012) is quite easily his most readily accessible project. "Practice" is the latest leak from his upcoming Blue Chips 2 mixtape with buddy Party Supplies , which is set to hit The Internet this upcoming Friday, November 1st. "I'M SUPPOSED TO BE THE FRANCHISE PLAYER, AND WE TALKIN' BOUT PRACTICE!?" beckons the voice of former Sixers all-star Allen Iverson (circa 2002) during the track's intro; and then, before you know it, "Practice" effortlessly morphs into a horn-laden Smooth Jazz in-debited BANGER! ...

Alive from Toronto: Action Bronson - "Give Me One Reason" & "Tequila" (Party Supplies, unreleased)

Party Supplies (Justin Nealis) is the ingenious anti- Hip-Hop producer behind the sonic madness that is Blue Chips ; Nealis somehow coarsed Action Bronson into rapping over Peter Gabriel , Phil Collins, John Cougar Mellencamp , Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam [all on one track!] , Extreme , Iron Butterfly, Guns N' Roses , Frank Zappa, Peter Bjorn & John , and Justin Bieber . Now, after nearly 2 years-worth of recording, Action Bronson & Party Supplies are gearing up to FREElease Blue Chips 2 on "The First Day it rains in NOVEMBER," whatever the Hell that means ha. Bronson generously previewed 2 unreleased Blue Chips 2 tracks the other night at the Toronto stop of his 2 High 2 Die tour. For the sake of continuity and sheer blog-ease, I'm just gonna refer to the new tracks as "Give Me One Reason" and "Tequila" from here on out. It's a little hard to decipher lyrically because we're watching a sub-par fan-shot video; But it cl...

Represent The Stripes: Action Bronson & Party Supplies - "Midget Cough" (Olympics Mixtape)

Just in case you didn't already know, the 2012 Olympic Games kick off "across the pond" [ London ] this upcoming Friday night. In honor of the 2 week-long sporting event(s) and related festivities, Mick Boogie teamed up with Hypetrak to piece together Represent The Stripes ; an 18-track mixtape partially inspired by adidas Originals ' recently unveiled #represent campaign. "Midget Cough" features a hand-crafted beat from Party Supplies that slithers under a bunch of crazy-ass Action Bronson rhymes. Sonically, it sounds like either a Blue Chips left-over and/or an early preview of Blue Chips 2 . But God only knows where this one will finally end up! Man, I gotta admit, nearly all of Party Supplies' beats on Blue Chips were top-notch and Action Bronson really shone through all those damn guest rappers spread across Respect The Fly Shit (Meyhem Lauren) just a few months back. "Midget Cough" somehow manages to effortlessly reference ...

Jungle Roots: Action Bronson & Party Supplies - "Steve Wynn" (Aaron Neville Sample)

Bottom line, Blue Chips is most likely the best mixtape of the year, even though it was released as early as March 2012. That really doesn't say much for Hip-Hop or music as a whole. Anyways... Action Bronson is a "Rap Singer" from Flushing, Queens who sounds like Ghostface Killah and looks like an Albanian Rick Ross . I has a chance to do an interview with Blue Chips' sole producer, Party Supplies (Justin) , but yet again, my lack of phone interviewing skills got in the way and I kinda regret missing out on such a great opportunity. But shit, I hear that Action Bronson is currently hard @ work setting up All-Star features for "Blue Chips 2," so maybe I can initiate an interview to coincide with that one! Constructed atop an old Aaron Neville sample (1973), "Steve Wynn" is quite arguably Blue Chips' strongest piece. Now it has a bath salts-fueled, revenge-filled music video to go along with it, which was directed by Rik Cordero . T...

Reebok Classics Presents: Action Bronson & Party Supplies - "Blue Chips?" (Fool's Gold Bootleg)

"Blue Chips" is an off-the-cuff, spontaneous project that started as a vibe session one Winter afternoon... and spiraled into a 17-song dusted journey through the warped comedic minds of Action Bronson and the prodigy producer/artist known simply as Party Supplies . This journey includes appearances by Roc Marci, Meyhem Lauren , and Das Racist and was recorded in the confines of Party Supplies' Williamsburg, [Brooklyn] chalet. It's a "project," as opposed to a mixtape or an album and sits in a nether world somewhere between the two. Most of all, it's a moment in time made [during] a 3-week period of hanging out at Party Supplies' house. In between cheese plates, snaps and spliffs the 2 artists came up with this testament of creativity and spontaneity! #March12th - Reebok Classics
