Members of Operation Ivy, Rancid, Circle Jerks, TRASH TALK & Classics of Love Form New Band DOOM REgulator & Release Hellcat Singles Club Single "Raid" (Hellcat/Epitaph Records)

DOOM REgulator painting (ART CREDIT: Ryan Callisto @moonofjupiterart) Operation Ivy—often, affectionately know as simply "Op Ivy" —were only active for two years in-between 1987-89, but have remined one of the most influential Ska Punk/Hardcore eevr since their all too brief tenture. Op Ivy's Lint AKA Tim Armstrong and Matt McCall AKA Matt Freeman would go on to play in Rancid together, who are still actively recording and touring some 32 years later. Armstrong and Op Ivy vocalist Jesse Michaels briefy reunited in 2013 on a song called "Living In A Dangerous Land" as part of his extensive Tim Timebomb & Friends singles series and again in 2022 to play a rendition of "Sound System" as backed by The Interrupters at Musack's Rock "N" Roll Carnival. Armstrong & Michaels additionally co-wrote a handful of songs together for UK Punks Grade 2, which appeared strewn across Graveyard Island , Graveyard Island: Acoustic Sessions, and Gr...

Art Inhuman: Dan Schenker Creates A.I.-generated Artwork Inspired By Midtown & Cobra Starship Song Titles & Lyrics Coinciding with Resurrection Tour 2022 (Plus, New Spotify Playlist)

"Become What You Hate" (ART CREDIT: Dan Schenker) Art Inhuman is a collaborative effort between Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) artist Dan Schenker and writer Matt Horowitz. Dan takes band names, lyrics, and song names and with the help of A.I., manipulates them into what he feels best represents them visually. If you have a suggestion for an upcoming addition to this series, Tweet Matt at @SharpChedder856 and/or Dan at @heydanschenker and Tag the band or artist you'd like us to feature next. This project spawned from Dan's decades-long love of music. Dan had been a fan of the band FOLLY since early high school—for the blend of Punk, Ska, and Hardcore they seamlessly wove, for the energy their music made him feel, and for the almost disproportionately poetic lyrics and topics they covered. So, when Dan thought to input some of his favorite FOLLY lyrics, song titles, and album titles into Midjourney, the results were staggering. He posted them to Facebook, which ca...

Art Inhuman: Dan Schenker's A.I.-generated Collection of Artwork Inspired By Elements from The Interrupters' New Album In The Wild (Hellcat Records)

BONUS A.I. Original: "Punk Rock Princess" (ART CREDIT: Dan Schenker) It all started back in April when renown New Jersey-bred Ska-core/Punk pioneers FOLLY (@follynj) randomly a series of eerie, yet completely striking and utterly compelling imagery to their somewhat newly-active Instagram page. FOLLY wrote, "Our talented photographer @heydanschenker entered FOLLY lyrics for A.I. to conjure generative art. We're absolutely fascinated with this artistic movement (despite its controversial nature.) What incredible visual witchcraft and digital sorcery this is!" It was accompanied by eight odd, creepy, and compelling images conjured up by fellow New Jerseyan Dan Schenker with assistance from Artificial Intelligence or A.I.—alright, all I can think of whenever I hear "A.I." is that awful Microsoft A.I. commercial featuring Common waving his hands around! So, to make a long story short, I reached out to Dan via email, told him how much I dug his FOLLY A...
