Coolie Ranx (photographer unknown / SOURCE: Facebook) Coolie Ranx (born Obi-Ajula Ugbomah) is well-known for his work within the New York City Ska scene and beyond. Starting in the very early 1990's, he was the frontman of New York City's own The Toasters, who were instrumental in getting Ska on the map in America. The Toasters, also, formed Moon Ska Records , which became the homebase for a multitude of the Ska bands that nurtured the 1990's Third Wave Ska revival. He departed The Toasters in 1997 and went on to start his own band, Pilfers. Through Pilfers, Coolie created an infectious and unique sound aptly named Raggacore, which seamlessly blended Pop, Reggae, Dub, Hardcore, Punk, and Ska in a rugged, hard-hitting energy. Normal Creatures are a new Hip-Hop/Rock-leaning group hailing from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who aren't exactly "new." Long story short, Normal Creatures once functioned as Sikes & The New Violence from 2014-20, but posted a message this past September accompanied by an image with the text "Goodbye Sikes and The New Violence. Hello Normal Creatures." Sikes explained within part of the heart-felt message, "I don't feel as though it's fair for the band to exist under the shadow of "Sikes" and I want us to be acknowledged as a collective unit..." He further explained all of Sikes & The New Violence's music released prior to 2020 will continue to exist online as such, although, a set of three singles recorded and released during Quarantine will soon be accurately re-uploaded to streaming services as Normal Creatures. Peanut Butter Lovesicle are a band made up of 2 Jersey -bred brothers, Jake & Mike D'Arc , and their cousin, Timmy Miller who somehow effortlessly manage to combine the Classic Rock bravado of Led Zeppelin with Cage The Elephant 's brand of Country-Rock SWAG. "In The Zone" 's opening riff reminds me a little bit of The Cars' smash hit, "Good Times Roll" (1979); While the lead track was just released to the masses yesterday, Peanut Butter Lovesicle plan to liberate it's companion EP, Dirty Pride nation-wide on Sept. 25th. The band's new EP was "recorded in an 1869-built church in Hudson, NY using 2-inch tape, few overdubs, and minimal digital." Production work was handled by Henry Hirsch , who's previously worked with the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Mick Jagger , and Madonna , and the tracks were then engineered by Rachel Alina .
