Christmas with DOOM: Cookin' Soul Unwraps DOOM XMAS (MF DOOM Remixes) Collection Mixed with Villainous Holiday Classics

DOOM XMAS (MF Doom remixes) by Cookin Soul "Why spend X-mas Eve waiting for some extra-fat white dude to come bursting through the ceiling... when you can spend X-mas Eve with yours truly, The Super-Villain , DOOM !!? HO, HO, HO!" DOOM himself proclaims within the opening bars of "Xmas with DOOM (Intro)." It appears as though the holiday greeting stems from [adult swim] 's 2006 Christmas with DOOM holiday special, which was used to help promote either Danger Mouse & MF DOOM AKA DANGERMOUSE 's THE MOUSE & THE MASK or its follow-up, Occult Hymn EP . DOOM 's jolly refrain has now been re-purposed as part of Spanish beat-maker and producer Cookin' Soul 's latest creation, DOOM XMAS (MF DOOM Remixes) a collection of re-works of The Metal Face Villain himself. DOOM XMAS serves as a quasi-follow-up to Cookin' Soul 's like-minded 2012 Ready for Xmas (Biggie Remixes.) Earlier this year, DOOM reunited with "Ka-Bang!...

Baltimore "Talk Singer"-producer Height Keech Compiles Beat-maker Bedrock #5 On The Heels of Shark Tank's Dan's House (Cold Rhymes Records)

"I'm Height Keech. I'm a rapper from Baltimore, MD . I grew up being the guy in the crew that didn't know how to make the beats I heard in my head... Now, I feel like I've found my own voice as a producer and I'm off to the races. These are some of the records [whose] production has inspired me, through the years." - Height Keech (Shark Tank) Dan's House by Shark Tank I. Public Enemy - It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back (1988) "A lot has been said about this album, so let me zero in on my favorite track: "Night of The Living Baseheads." The main sample is like a Jack-In-The-Box opening every two seconds. The change-up leading into the second verse feels like a transmission from another planet. Every little piece is perfectly executed, yet it feels like you’re on an insane train that could go off the rails at any second. It used to be way more labor-intensive to do all these weird one-off changes and flourishes; the ...

Darko The Super, Hemlock Ernst & Mr. Muthaf**kin' eXquire Producer âtƒ AKA all these fingers Compiles Beat-maker Bedrock #4 On The Heels of C.U.LATER (Bandcamp Album)

"Hello, I'm âtƒ (AKA all these fingers ) and I make beats and play music. There's a lot of dudes who have influenced me as a producer, but these are probably the ones I owe the most to... in particular, these records," Michigan -based producer all these fingers wrote within a recent email. I actually believe I met âtƒ through my buddy and frequent collaborator Darko The Super —they've collaborated on a few albums, as both Darko The Super & all these fingers and Doc Fingers . âtƒ has self-released a whopping 52 albums, mixtapes, cassettes, EP's, beat tapes, and digi-singles on his personal Bandcamp page since 2011. He's collaborated with the likes of Darko The Super , Mr. Muthaf**kin' eXquire, and Future Islands frontman Sam Herring 's rapping alter-ego Hemlock Ernst , as well as creating remixes for Roc Marciano , Sean Price, Beastie Boys , Nas, Raekwon , Biggie, and Slick Rick . all these fingers' latest Super Mario Kart -inspire...

Tuomas Vauhkonen & Jeremias Nieminen Present: Quasimoto - "Catchin' The Vibe" (Stones Throw)

"We set out to film the video for "Catchin' The Vibe" in Quasimoto 's home town [of] Lost Gates CA , but were denied filming permits. We were also denied permits for filming in Los Angeles County , possibly due to embarrassment caused in the wake of Quasimoto 's "official letter of recognition" from the Los Angeles mayor and city council, who did not realize that Quasimoto was a semi-fictional cartoon character, weed-smoking promoter of chaos, obsessed with fat ass[es]." Stones Throw then recruited directors Tuomas Vauhkonen & Jeremias Nieminen , who filmed "Catchin' The Vibe" with local actors across alternate locations in Finland and Romania . It's a short, debauchery-filled affair that stars some sort of trashman collecting disposed items; cause like the say, "one man's trash is another man's treasure!" Stones Throw's included mini-press release also notes that " Madlib appears under ...

The Misadventures of Mr. Moot & Mr. Witz: Kanye - "New Slaves" @ Eastern State Penitentiary (Philly)

Headed into Philly on a whim with my buddy Mike last night (Friday), speeding down 676 and over The Ben Franklin Bridge . Kanye 's site listed 22 new projection cities across America/Europe , including 3 planned Philly locations; Eastern State Penitentiary 's guerrilla-style showing was listed as 10:30-11:30. I called up my girlfriend once we got there, which was around 11:10 and only waited about 10-15 minutes longer amongst a group of roughly 100+ people trying to decide which side of the street to stand on. A black panel van with some sort of New York labeling pulled up and after knocking into someone's truck, pulled out a generator and started setting up as the crowd got more and more restless, starting to block the oncoming late night traffic. Kanye 's so damn obnoxious... like who would really think to project their face on building sides across the world from 9-12 @ night!? It's almost like he's gotten progressively crazier since The College Dropout...

Welcome to Zamrock: Madlib - "The Mad March" (Rock Konducta, Limited 300)

Madlib is quite easily one of the most prolific and criminally under-rated rapper/producers in all the land; But any tried and true, well-versed Hip-Hop head will without a doubt champion Otis Jackson Jr. 's multi-faceted skills to the end! Madlib unleashed 13 staggering Madlib Medicine Show full-length albums/mixtapes last year under his "Beat Konducta" guise in just over 12 months-time. Every once in a while, he'll randomly drop some tunes under one of his many AKA handles, which include but aren't limited to: Quasimoto , Yesterday's New Quintet, Supreme Team , MADVILLAIN, The Last Electro-Acoustic Space Jazz & Percussion Ensemble , etc. and he's produced neck-snapping beats for everyone from J Dilla to Freddie Gibbs . Mr. Jackson, who's managed to keep a pretty low profile for the first 1/2 of 2013, is gearing up to release an Odds & Sods -style Quasimoto comp. But a little while before Yessir Whatever's upcoming June 18th unv...

Guess Who's Back, Back Again!?: Quasimoto - "Planned Attack" (Yessir Whatever)

Quasimoto is one of producer/rapper extraordinaire Madlib 's many alter-egos; But this one's a brick-wielding yellow critter with a high-pitched voice and an affinity for weed smoke. Rumors of a new Lord Quas album titled Yessir Whatever began to swirl earlier this month, which ends up being a 12-track "Odds & Sods" style comp. album. Stones Throw lamented that " Yessir Whatever collects 12 tracks made by Madlib & Quasimoto over a roughly 12-year period. A few were released on rare and out-of-print vinyl, while a few others are previously unreleased, now mixed and mastered for the first time" in a recent press release. I'm almost positive that this collection includes 4 previously unreleased tracks, too: "Planned Attack," "Brothers Can't See Me," "Catchin' The Vibe," and "LAX to JFK," which don't seem to have appeared anywhere else prior. Madlib 's scattered post- The Further...

Stop What'cha Doin, Cause I'm About to Ruin!.. Captain Murphy - "The Ritual" (Jay Electronica)

"The Ritual" is the latest released track from mysterious and already infamous rapper, Captain Murphy , who's true identity is still largely unknown - Even with 3 pretty STELLAR tracks nestled under his belt this early! Murphy first appeared with a brief verse on Flying Lotus' second Adult Swim single, "Between Friends;" Since it's July 23rd release, Captain Murphy 's identity has quickly become quite the "hot topic" across Hip-Hop ... He may or may not be a cleverly-crafted alter ego of either Flying Lotus , Earl Sweatshirt , or Tyler, The Creator . This whole mystery ego thing really reminds me of Quasimoto, King Geedorah , and even Humpty Hump [1990]. While "The Ritual" actually swiped it's primary beat from "Dear Moleskine" (Jay Electronica) , his other 2 tracks: "Mighty Morphin' Foreskin" and "Between Friends" seem to be [mostly] original compositions. iTunes' Info section s...

The True Story of Thanksgiving: Eugene McDaniels' "The Parasite (for Buffy)" & Iron Maiden's "Run to The Hills" (Atlantic/EMI)

Now, don't get me wrong, I love Thanksgiving just as much as every other warm-blooded American citizen; Gotta love those celebratory, non-present giving holidays! But I must digress a tad but, and admit that the historical roots of said festivities aren't as "cookie-cutter" as we are all generally led to believe. For argument's sake, majority of us were taught back in grade school that the Indians/Pilgrims met, laughed, united, and collaborated to produce the joyous, harmonious feast that was forever immortalized as "The First Thanksgiving." According to various alternative accounts, the settlers at Plymouth Rock were in fact a very cruel, conniving brand of people. "They landed at Plymouth with a smile on their face / They said, "We're your brothers from a far away place" / I know the Indians greeted them with wide open arms / Too simple-minded and trusting to see through the charms / In came the religions, the liquor, and...
