It's a Ballroom Blitz!: SBTRKT & Ezra Koenig - "NEW DORP, NEW YORK" (Young Turks)

"did a song with @SBTRKT called "NEW DORP, NEW YORK" - listen 2 the radio 1 rip if u like" Columbia scholar @arzE Koenig Tweeted late Tuesday afternoon. The mysterious masked London-based producer has been hinting at the follow-up to his critically-acclaimed self-titled 2011 LP for quite some time now and recently released a series of mid-album Transitions EP's. Wonder Where We Land will see a wide release on Young Turks this forthcoming September 22-23rd; SBTRKT has recruited his frequent collaborators Sampha and Jessie Ware along with Chairlift songstress Caroline Polachek, A$AP Ferg, Warpaint, Denai Moore, Koreless, Raury, and Vampire Weekend frontman Ezra Koenig. The aforementioned Koenig-featuring track, "NEW DORP, NEW YORK," serves as the album's lead/teaser single; it's a weirdly fitting modern mash-up of Post-Dubstep break-beats and a slightly re-tooled infamous line cherry-picked from "Ballroom Blitz" ("and he thinks I'm the negative one"). Not entirely unlike his former "Step" Wintertime Remix collaborators, Ezra Koenig half-sings half-raps, "Flag flapping The Manhattan / New Dorp New York / Gargoyles gargling oil / Peak of the empire, top of the rock." It's a little hard to tell this early on, but it seems like Ezra Koenig and the above chronicled genre-blending guest list will likely help add another layer of depth to SBTRKT's already progressive sound.

Shadows of Tomorrow: BIG GHOST LIMITED Shares His Illustrious Thoughts On DOOM's Life, Death & Career (MF DOOM Tribute)

CREDIT: KARISSA KANESHIRO (@karissakaneshiro) Honestly, it doesn't even feel like there's a proper way to elegize an eccentric and extremely talented artist such as MF DOOM, who meant so much to so many of us for so many years for so many different reasons as truly unique as DOOM himself. So, what better way to pay tribute to The Man, The Myth, THE MASK himself than by speaking to those closest to him? With a heavy heart, I proudly present Shadows of Tomorrow; a new recurring column in tribute to DOOM in an effort to re-tell the tall tales, strange stories, and lesser-known tidbits of The Metal Face Villain himself. R.I.P. Daniel "MF DOOM" Dumile Thompson. "The difference between talent and genius. The significance of some artists' bodies of work cannot be measured or quantified by man-made instruments or hypotheses... it's like accurately guessing how many people on the planet see the same star in the night sky at the same time. Gabe 'Nandez Returns to POW Recordings with Ferocious Ox EP Inspired By DMX, The LOX & Ruff Ryders (Old School Music Videos)

Gabe 'Nandez is an extremely talented New York-based emcee who has been closely aligned with Passion of The Weiss founder Jeff Weiss' POW Recordings since before 2017. 'Nandez has been regarded as a child of DOOM & DMX, whose parents worked in diplomacy, so he grew up moving around often, temporarily living in Tanzania, Haiti, and Jerusalem, as well as New York City. Gabe 'Nandez's latest EP, simply titled Ox, is being framed as a tribute to the spirit of Ruff Ryders. POW initially released 'Nandez's 2017 cassette compilation album Plaques and soon after, released his proper full-length debut, Diplomacy , to widespread critical and fan acclaim over the summer of 2019. Since then, Gabe 'Nandez has quietly issued a number of singles, EP's, loosies, etc. sometimes, self-released, sometimes, with POW Recordings, and, sometimes, on a variety of other Indie labels, such as Stereoma and Epidemic Sound , namely, for his guitar-fueled 2020 EP, Grove.

Jeff Rosenstock Shares "Skarranged" Version of 2020's NO DREAM Fittingly Re-titled SKA DREAM (Polyvinyl/Quote Unquote Records)

"You can PRE-ORDER some sweet limited (and unlimited) vinyl from us here . (There's about 200 left of the above variant!) You can LISTEN to SKA DREAM on all the things here . That includes Quote Unquote Records, where you can download the whole thing for free and if you choose to make a donation there, all the money goes to The First Nations Development Institute. HOPE YA LIKE THE RECORD! HERE'S A LITTLE THING I WROTE ABOUT IT: SKA DREAM is a complete re-recording of Jeff Rosenstock's critically-acclaimed 2020 record, NO DREAM; however, this time around, all the songs are Ska songs—you're welcome. The very good idea to make this record came together when, like many other bands throughout this pandemic that refused to participate in super-spreading events, we were trying to find a fun way to make some music together to share with people. Otherwise, we were just spending our evenings texting the Group Chat in dread about the collapsing world around us. Not the
