Bandcamp Friday Special: NAUTILUS Share House of Pain "Jump Around" Glueset Remix Featuring Luvit, Flip, Spax & MC Yinka (Oonops Drops)

Lets be completely honest, most people of a certain age would have first heard House of Pain's infectious hit "Jump Around" within the opening scenes of Robin Williams' 1993 blockbuster smash, Mrs. Doubtfire. And, I meam, who doesn't love that blaring introductory horn sample, high-pitched squealing, and braggadocious rhymes from House of Pain's Everlast & Danny Boy O'Connor and scratches from DJ Lethal (later of Limp Bizkit!) It's without a doubt one of our favorite 90's oddball Hip-Hip selections and a must for any Irish/St. Patrick's Day-themed playlist. House of Pain were initially active from 1991-96, went their seperate ways, and embarked on solo careers, but have reunited multiple times over the years namely 2010-11 and 2017 and even briefly as part of Hip-Hop super-group La Coka Nostra.

For the 25th anniversary of "Jump Around" back in 2018, DJ Muggs orchestrated a super-remix/re-make of sorts for his aptly-named "Jump Around" (25 Year Remix) featuring the Murderer's Row of Everlast, Damian Marley & Action Bronson affiliate Meyhem Lauren. Just yesterday afternoon, #EVERLAST AKA Whitey Ford (@ogeverlast) posted a message on his Instagram page: "Got some plans [with] my guy @tristaneaton for celebrating the 30th anniversary of the album. However, 30 years ago today, "Jump Around" hit the airwaves." Yes, you read that correctly, 30 years ago yesterday, May 5, 1992, House of Pain released their timeless single from their self-titled 1992 Tommy Boy Records debut. Coincidentally, early this morning, for Bandcamp Friday, Japanese Jazz trio shared their own re-interpreted version of House of Pain's "Jump Around" as part of their own special 30th anniversary sonic tribute.

German-based imprint Oonops Drops describe it as "the ultimate cover version twist by Japanese Jazz trio NAUTILUS, plus, International artists Luvit from Japan, Flip (Texta) from Austria, Spax from Germany, and MC Yinka from Greece, who are spitting their rhymes in four different languages over it, plus, Glueset, who edited it to the perfect version." DJ Oonops, who came up with the conceptual project idea, says "it nearly took two years to get this project finished!" DJ Oonops & NAUTILUS have previously joined forces for 7-inch releases re-interpreting the Beastie Boys' "Root Down" & De La Soul's "A Rollerskating Jam Named "Saturdays'" in a similar fashion. NAUTILUS' sprawling discography, also, includes charismatically unique versions of Marc Moulin's "Humpty Dumpty," Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me," Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine," Giorgio Moroder's "Tears," Roy Ayers Ubiquity's "We Live In Brooklyn, Baby," and Suzanne Vega's "Tom's Diner."

The flip side of "Jump Around" B/W "Rokucho" starts with the original version of "Rokucho," a beautiful Traditional Japanese song with J Dilla-esque beats by veteran Japanese singer Anna Sato and NAUTILUS drummer Toshiyuki "Toshi" Sasaki. Plus, there's a special remix of "Rokucho" by Berlin-based duo Slick Walk (Merse & DJ Robert Smith,) who give it a mysterious chopped up and laid-back treatment to full effect.
