Honestly, it doesn't even feel like there's a proper way to elegize an eccentric and extremely talented artist such as MF DOOM, who meant so much to so many of us for so many years for so many different reasons as truly unique as DOOM himself. So, what better way to pay tribute to The Man, The Myth, THE MASK himself than by speaking to those closest to him? With a heavy heart, I proudly present Shadows of Tomorrow; a new recurring column in tribute to DOOM in an effort to re-tell the tall tales, strange stories, and lesser-known tidbits of The Metal Face Villain himself. R.I.P. Daniel "MF DOOM" Dumile Thompson.

"Thanks for the inquiry. Like I was saying in that [Facebook] message, I had been wanting to make a DOOM series of mixes called Vik Ferrrari (Andy Kaufman character from the TV show Taxi) 'cuz DOOM has always been an Andy K. kind of character to me [...] Plus, I've always wanted to use the Vic Ferrari/Latka character, so it all came together. I started getting the idea around mid-2000's when the rumor of him sending in DOOM imposters to go and perform for him. Over the years, I'd chip away at ideas for it, especially, after his appearance on CZARFACE, but once I heard the news of his death, I just zoned out and started the whole thing from scratch and recorded this mix on New Year's Day. The second mix will be all [Metal Fingers'] Special Herbs beats. [The] third mix is all DOOM original samples and throughout both mixes will be more Andy Kaufman samples/skits."

Liberty Bell Cracked In 1/2: Ween - "Freedom of '76" (Gene Ween's Final Send-Off)

Chocolate & Cheese (1994) was one of the first albums I bought with my own money. I was in some sort of BMG Music Club , where you'd buy 5 CD's and then get 10 for "FREE." It was all sent through mail order and you picked the titles from some special booklet. I'm almost positive that Chocolate & Cheese's side boob-baring album cover was what initially drew me in... mind you, I was 12-15 and the zany Ween logo/middle finger CD graphic really didn't hurt either. Honestly, I forget how I really felt about it @ the time, but a few years later, my older cousin Josh told me that Ween were this BIG college "jam band." CKY did some sort pf 93.3 radio takeover to promote their new album and played "Freedom of '76" late that night on air.
