Dave Grohl & Foo Fighters Producer Greg Kurstin Return with Nights One & Two of Annual Hanukkah Sessions Covers (Lisa Loeb/The Ramones)
Last year, Foo Fighters frontman and esteemed writer Dave Grohl and producer, multi-instrumentalist, and song-writer Greg Kurstin teamed up once more for The Hanukkah Sessions: a series of eight performance videos covering the likes of the Beastie Boys, Drake, Mountain, Peaches, Bob Dylan, Elastica, The Knack, and The Velvet Underground. Eight Jewish artists, one for each night of Hanukkah 2020. Sunday night, the first night of Hanukkah, Grohl & Kurstin re-emerged with Night One of The Hanukkah Sessions 2021. "Welcome back to the menorah, y'all. Let's kick it this year's Hanukkah Sessions with one of Dallas, Texas' favorite Jewish daughters. So, put on your coffee shop spectacles and your Betsey Johnson dress and HAVA listen to this... "Stay" by Lisa Loeb," read a video description uploaded along with Night One's festive candle-lit offering.
Yes, Dave Grohl & Greg Kurstin have tackled Lisa Loeb & Nine Stories' mellow 1994 coffee house slow jam, "Stay (I Missed You)" and effortlessly turned it into a downright Metal stomper. Grohl can be seen in its companion music video wearing a flower print dress while delivering Loeb's sparse introspective lines and, then, it cuts to scenes of Grohl wailing at the top of his lungs amidst a black background and eerie pulsating strobe lights. It's definitely something you just have to experience for yourself! For Night Two of The Hanukkah Sessions 2021, Greg Kurstin & Dave Grohl returned with a cover of another crew of famous, maybe, lesser-known Jews: The Ramones. "Once upon a time, two nice Jewish boys from Queens named Jeffery Hyman & Thomas Erdelyi changed the world forever with their music... as Joey & Tommy Ramone!"
"GABBAI GABBAI, HEY! Ladies and gentlemen... it's The Ramones! "Blitzkreig Bop!" reads an accompanying video description. Grohl & Kurstin go full-on Ramones for their cover of "Blitzkreig Bop" sounding strikingly similar to The Ramones' original versin from their self-titled 1976 debut. It appears as though the only thing noticable they really change up is turning "Blitzkreig Bop'"s popular "HEY, HO! LET'S GO!" refrain into "HEY, OY! LET'S GOY!" Here's looking forward to what our favorite Jew/Gentile musical duo have in store for Nights 3-8 of this year's Hanukkah Sessions festivities! Grohl's main gig, Foo Fighters, recently announced long-awaited dates for their upcoming Live In North America 2022 tour. See dates, venues, and additional details listed below. Happy Hanukkah to all of our Hebrews and she-brews out there this holiday season!!!
