Honestly, it doesn't even feel like there's a proper way to elegize an eccentric and extremely talented artist such as MF DOOM, who meant so much to so many of us for so many years for so many different reasons as truly unique as DOOM himself. So, what better way to pay tribute to The Man, The Myth, THE MASK himself than by speaking to those closest to him? With a heavy heart, I proudly present Shadows of Tomorrow; a new recurring column in tribute to DOOM in an effort to re-tell the tall tales, strange stories, and lesser-known tidbits of The Metal Face Villain himself. R.I.P. Daniel "MF DOOM" Dumile Thompson.

"This is probably the first song we ever made together. I made the beat and [Spoken] Nerd did the raps. We just released it as a solo song, if I recall, but it may have been part of one of Nathan's Invisible Library compilations, so you might want to verify that with him. I don't use samples often, but given the nature of the concept, it made the most sense to go that route. I had always wanted to sample the nostalgic Pointer Sisters song about counting numbers that played constantly on Sesame Street throughout my childhood. I cut it up, added some synths, and Nathan [Spoken Nerd] knocked it out of the park. We are currently wrapping up our 14-song collaborative album that we've been putting together for the past five years and it all started with "MC DOOM.'"

"Thank you for reaching out. "MC DOOM" was an idea I came up with for Free Comic Book Day. My label (Invisible Library) put together a free comic that came with a CD and was given out at comic stores in Nashville, St. Louis, and Cincinnati. I thought the idea of me wearing the DOOM mask was funny because I have a very distinct look. I've always admired MF DOOM's approach to Hip-Hop through art and storytelling. He has certainly left quite the legacy."
