3 Feet High & Rising: SEMANTICS Return with Single "Get In The Car" & Announce New Album Paint Me Blue (SideOneDummy Records)

Cathartic and emotive Australian Post-punk group SEMANTICS has signed to prominent Los Angeles-based Indie label SideOneDummy Records (Flogging Molly, The Gaslight Anthem, KILL YOUR IDOLS) for the release of their debut album, Paint Me Blue, which is due out across the world this May. In addition, the band unveiled their anthemic and infectious lead single, "Get In The Car," as well as the music video. Also, limited edition vinyl is now available for pre-order. Paint Me Blue was produced by GRAMMY-nominated producer Jack Shirley (Gouge Away, Joyce Manor, Tony Molina) and showcases their mastery of Punk & Indie sensibilities with a distinctive Aussie flair. Lyrically, the band delves into mental illness and environmental depression. "Each song is discussing a facet of life as a young Australian in today's world, whether it's juggling work with study, opening a dialogue about mental health or just dealing with the heat," describes lead vocalist and guitarist Callum Robinson.

"'Get In The Car" is a song about support," explains Robinson. "It uses some pretty literal lyrics describing events that I shared with my partner when she was living remotely during some turbulent times. The punchline of the song, "for f*cks sake, just get in the car" is like, kick up the a**, get out of bed, don't stay at rock bottom kind of message. The video steers away from the true narrative of the lyrics as not to be too literal. We wanted to inject some humour and a bit of ourselves in it. Madz (bassist) is our protagonist living her own hardship in a sharehouse with lazy bums. Her "get in the car" moment is exacting revenge and blowing us up!" SEMANTICS is a four-piece Australian Post-punk band from Southeast Queensland/Meanjin. Keeping in line with Punk Rock philosophy, SEMANTICS spares no effort in connecting with their listeners on a personal level both on and off the stage to remind fans that it's "alright, if you're not alright."

Since their pivotal stand-alone single, "Cemeteries," debuted on Triple J in May of 2018, SEMANTICS has been hard at work refining their craft to match their new-found direction. In 2019, things started to progress for the band when Triple J gave the group a spot on the Triple J Unearthed Stage at Big Sound, leading their single, "Drunk," to be picked up by radio stations and streaming sites. Currently, the song sits at over 650k Spotify streams. With two EP's and a multitude of singles under their belt and a completed sold-out tour with Sly Withers & Columbus, the Brisbane quartet released their next single, "Sleep At Night," in July of 2021 and embarked on an Australian tour, including dates in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne. The Brisbane quartet is set to release their debut album, Paint Me Blue, on May 20, 2022, via SideOneDummy Records. SEMANTICS is Callum Robinson (vocals, guitar,) Maddy "Madz" Tunstall (bass,) and Mitch Lawrence (drums.)

[W]reckless, Topless American Youth: Lana del Rey - "Born 2 Die" (Britney Spears Birthday 30)

Lana del Rey [Lizzy Grant] effectively became 2011's "It Girl" with the release of her phenomenal debut single, "Video Games" (Stranger) . Like many struggling singer-songwriters, Grant has been signed, dropped, and significantly changed her public image since bursting onto the scene (2009). With that said, it can be assumed that Lana del Rey has collected just as many "haters" as she has avid supporters. To be perfectly honest, the only other artist I can think of that made this much commotion... garnered so much wide-spread buzz/hate and critical acclaim -- right out of the gates -- with just one track is Britney Spears . And maybe in this post- Mike musical era, that's the true synthesis of Pop Culture: Britney Lynn Spears . After months of repeated teasing and speculation, Lana del Rey 's major label debut, Born 2 Die will [finally] be released this coming Jan. 30-31, 2012. Pitchfork reports that it will feature "Off to The Ra
