I usually try to stray away from conjuring up those vague, strangely obtrusive analogies to describe what a band "sounds like." But here's one for good ol' time's sake: Black Flag/Dinosaur Jr./Motörhead. Now, that's a pretty damn accurate description of Amherst, Mass' very own California X's scuzzy brand of guitar-driven Garage Punk/Rock; Lemmy, Dan & "Cool" (guitar-bass-drums) also incorporate stylistic touches of Rock "N" Roll, which sound similar to The Stooges and Foo Fighters. The band's self-titled [untitled] full-length, California X, is out on Don Giovanni this upcoming January 15th. It's the follow-up to their Damage 45, "Sucker/Mummy" from early 2012 and overall, they're describing it as "noisy 80's Western Mass. Rock, fuzzy 90's Garage Pop, and classic Post-Hardcore SST sounds."
While California X and their crew are currently cutting together a SCARY final edit of "Pond Rot," I've included the B-movie Horror-esque clip for "Mummy" up above. California X definitely took a page or 2 from hometown heroes, Dinosaur Jr.'s hand-written Grunge/Alternative Rock playbook when penning the album's lead-off single, "Pond Rot." Even though it was secretly uploaded to YouTube roughly 2 weeks ago, "Spider X" is an undeniably catchy Sludge Rock thumper! If it's any sort of testament to California X's likeability and sheer greatness... I randomly stumbled upon "Spider X" @ like 2:30am last night while perusing Pitchfork's Tracks section, was almost INSTANTLY hooked, and now I can't wait for California X to come out! Oh yeah, make sure you listen all the way through til the track's last 15-20 seconds for a cool little hidden musical nugget.
This video seems like the Mummy Returns.. lol! but nice video.. recruitment services
